Professor and Head of Integrated and Urban Plant Pathology Laboratory Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, University of Liege, Belgium), Haïssam Jijakli is managing a team of 40 persons. During the last 30 years, he developed biocontrol methods based on (micro)-organisms and their derivatives to protect plants against plant pathogens, including weeds. His concern is to create a strong link between public and industrial worlds in order to implement novel technologies that are economically and socially affordable for agriculture and horticulture sectors and consumers.
His career can be summarized as follows:
- Participation or coordination of more than 60 research projects in Belgium and abroad (e.a. 10 European projects),
- Publication of more than 500 scientific outputs (including more than 120 refereed articles),
- Publication of 9 patents in the biocontrol domain
Creation and co-founder of 4 spin-offs, including APEO, out of which one was targeting the registration and commercialization of an antagonistic yeast against post-harvest diseases of apples. The product Nexy© is now available on markets, the spin-off being integrated in LESAFFRE group.
